Jack Nicholson Called to Check in on Ex Anjelica Huston amid L.A. Wildfires

Anjelica Huston can always count on her ex Jack Nicholson.

The actress, 73, revealed in a recent interview with The Guardian that her former partner Nicholson reached out to check in on her amid January’s wildfires in Los Angeles

“I was in a car with three dogs, two cats and the housekeeper, and he called and asked if I was all right, and if I had someplace I was staying,” she told the outlet. “That’s the bottom line with he and I — when the chips are down, he’s there.”

The pair famously dated on and off for 17 years from 1973 to 1990, when it was revealed that Nicholson, 87, fathered a child outside of their relationship. Huston was later married to sculptor Robert Graham until his death in 2008. Nicholson went on to date Rebecca Broussard, with whom he welcomed two children, as well as Lara Flynn Boyle.

Amid their relationship, Huston and Nicholson costarred in the 1985 comedy-crime movie Prizzi’s Honor, directed by Huston’s father John.

Addressing Nicholson’s infidelities through their on-and-off relationship, Huston said elsewhere in The Guardian interview that she “loved” the I’m Still Here actor despite his behavior.

“I think in the world that I was living in, it wasn’t disrespectful. It was how he was, and it wasn’t so personal. I think as soon as I clocked that, it was all right, I knew how to protect myself,” she said. “It didn’t make me happy, but I knew what I was doing.”

Huston continued: “I did what I wanted to do, and I did it with sureness. If I wanted something, I knew how to go after it, so it wasn’t as though anything was being done to me. I wasn’t a wilting flower.”

The actress — now set to star in BBC One’s upcoming series Towards Zero — previously opened up about ending her relationship with Nicholson in her 2014 memoir, Watch Me, in which she shared that she “beat him savagely about the head and shoulders” when they split.

“He was ducking and bending, and I was going at him like a prizefighter, raining a vast array of direct punches,” she wrote, adding that she later told Nicholson over the phone that he “deserved it.”

The cause of their breakup, Huston wrote at the time, left her feeling “inadequate and bitter” as she was physically unable to have children due to having endometriosis.

“I had endometriosis and had probably had it since my teens,” she wrote in her memoir. “I had undergone a laparoscopy, followed by a hysteroscopy, but a child was not to be.”
