Woman Found Dead in Suitcase Dumped by Highway

A man was arrested after the body of a staffer for the Indian National Congress was found stuffed in a suitcase on a highway over the weekend.

Sachin alias Dhillu, 30, was taken into custody by police in connection with the killing of 22-year-old Himani Narwal, according to the Times of India, Hindustan Times and The Haryana Story. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Narwal’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase left near the bus stop on the Rohtak-Delhi highway in Sampla, India, on March 1, the Times of India reports, citing police.

The investigation led authorities to Dhillu, a Facebook friend of Narwal, in less than two days. The phone shop owner is accused of using a cell phone charger to strangle Narwal after an argument about money, director general of police (ADGP) Krishan Kumar Rao said at a press conference cited byThe Haryana Story, Times of India and Tribune India.

Dhillu also allegedly stole Narwhal’s phone, laptop and jewelry before dumping her body, Rao said, per the Hindustan Times.

“After killing her, he stuffed her body in a suitcase, transported it to an isolated area in Sampla, and abandoned it in the bushes near the bus stand,” the police further alleged in the press conference.

The victim’s mother, Savita Narwal, told India Today that her daughter was involved in Congress for the past decade, adding that she often spoke out about issues within the Bharat Jodo Yatra movement.
