Two new PebbleOS smartwatches are now up for pre-order

Back in January, Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky unveiled his plan to launch new smartwatches powered by the open-sourced PebbleOS, and today they are already up for pre-order. The Core 2 Duo is $149 and ships in July, while the Core Time 2 is $225 and ships in December.

Both are only going to be available on pre-order from store.repebble.com (they will not be sold anywhere else), and both have worldwide shipping. They will be available in limited quantities, and pre-orders are fully refundable at any time until your watch ships.

Core 2 Duo

This one has a 1.26-inch 144×168 black and white e-paper screen, a polycarbonate frame, barometer and compass, and comes in black or white colorways. It’s “almost exactly” a Pebble 2, but improved with 30-day battery life (up from 7), a Nordic nRF52840 BLE chip, a speaker, a linear resonance actuator, and more reliable buttons with up to 30% longer lifetime in testing.

This will of course run all 10,000+ Pebble apps and watch faces. It will be water resistant, with the company targeting IPX8, it has a microphone, step and sleep tracking, and takes a standard 22mm watch strap.

Core Time 2

This is Eric’s dream watch, apparently. It has a 64-color (yes, that’s 64, not 64 billion) 1.5″ 200×228 e-paper touchscreen, the same as the Pebble Time 2. It has a metal frame and metal buttons, and is available in black or white, with a third color likely to come later on.

It has 30-day battery life, a flat glass lens for less glare and reflections than the Pebble Time family, a heart rate monitor, microphone and speaker, a standard 22mm watch strap, step and sleep tracking, and water resistance (again, targeting IPX8 but nothing is certain just yet).

The industrial design is “closely based on Pebble 2”, the founder says, but it’s slightly bigger to accommodate the larger display. More details will be shared “later this year”.
