Matheus Cunha has made no secret of his ambition for the future and admits: “I need to take that next step.”
The Wolves forward is expected to be a hot commodity in the upcoming transfer window, with several Premier League clubs keen on securing his services.
A high-profile move could be on the horizon, given the interest surrounding him.
Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring Cunha’s situation closely, as the Gunners seek to reinforce their attacking options following long-term injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are also in the mix and are believed to be preparing a record-breaking bid should they secure Champions League qualification. The club previously inquired about Cunha in January, but Wolves remained firm in their stance that he was not for sale.
Despite signing a contract extension to fend off suitors, Cunha has now made it clear that he is open to a move. Speaking to the Guardian, he shared his thoughts on his career progression.
“I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step, I want to fight for titles” 👀

“I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” Cunha said. “Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.
“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step.
“I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
Despite his desire to move on, the Brazilian expressed deep gratitude for the support he has received since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023.
“Sometimes all we want in life is affection,” he said. “People think we have everything, but we’re human beings, too. We need a bit of understanding – we have our difficulties.
“Wolves gave me that joy back. The fans [have given] me a lot.
“The status I have today, the player I am now and the happiness I’m feeling, it’s because of them. I’m really grateful to Wolves.”
With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Cunha appears set to move on in search of silverware and a new challenge.
