While the Premier League won’t get back underway for a few more days with the FA Cup taking centre stage this weekend, there was plenty of league action across Europe on Saturday.
Bayern Munich found themselves under pressure to respond in a two-way battle for the Bundesliga title, while Paris Saint-Germain had the chance to take a huge step towards another Ligue 1 crown.
Juventus, meanwhile, began the Igor Tudor era against Genoa.

Saint-Etienne 1-6 Paris Saint-Germain
PSG are on the brink of the Ligue 1 title after thrashing Saint-Etienne, though it initially looked as if they might stumble at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
Lucas Stassin’s header put the hosts ahead in the ninth minute, and it wasn’t until Goncalo Ramos’ 43rd-minute penalty that PSG were able to level.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead five minutes into the second half and a Desire Doue double, along with goals from Joao Neves and Ibrahim Mbaye, turned the game into a rout.
PSG will wrap up the Ligue 1 title with a draw against Angers next Saturday.

Juventus 1-0 Genoa
Tudor’s first game in charge of Juventus following the exit of Thiago Motta saw the Bianconeri boost their hopes of Champions League football.
Kenan Yildiz’s fine individual effort, with his superb run capped by a near-post finish high into the net, proved enough for Juve to keep the pressure on Bologna in the fight for the top four.
Juve are a point behind fourth-placed Bologna, who beat Venezia 1-0.
Roma are also in the hunt for the Champions League, and their 1-0 win at Lecce ensured Claudio Ranieri’s men remain just three points adrift of Juve and four shy of Bologna.

Bayern Munich 3-2 St. Pauli
Bayern restored their six-point lead atop the Bundesliga with victory over relegation-threatened St. Pauli, though it was not entirely straightforward.
Champions Bayer Leverkusen had cut the gap to three points by beating Bochum 3-1 on Friday.
But Harry Kane gave Bayern a 17th-minute lead as Vincent Kompany’s men sought to respond, sweeping home Michael Olise’s cross.
Elias Saad levelled 10 minutes later for the struggling visitors, but a second-half double from Leroy Sane, with Olise providing a second assist before Kane turned provider with a low cross, effectively secured the points.
Lars Ritzka scored a late consolation for St. Pauli deep into stoppage time, but Bayern now have an opportunity to go nine points clear when they visit Augsburg next Friday.

Espanyol 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid’s fading LaLiga title hopes suffered another setback as a second-half penalty saw them slip up at Espanyol.
Cesar Azpilicueta’s stunning long-range volley, his first goal since April 2022, put Atletico ahead in the 38th minute.
But Diego Simeone’s men failed to build on that advantage, and they were pegged back 19 minutes from the end of normal time.

Clement Lenglet pulled down Leandro Cabrera while defending a free-kick, and Javi Puado’s confident penalty into the top-right corner inflicted a damaging result on the visitors.
With Real Madrid beating Leganes 3-2, Atletico trail them and league leaders Barcelona by six points.
