Harry Kane rubbishes talk of Premier League return and insists he is happy at Bayern Munich

Harry Kane is baffled by reports he wants to return to the Premier League and says he is “not thinking about any other league or any other team” apart from Bayern Munich.

Kane joined Bayern in the summer of 2023 and has maintained the prolific form he showed at Tottenham, netting 77 goals in 83 matches for the Bundesliga club.

There were reports over the international break that should Kane claim the first major trophy of his career – Bayern are six points clear of defending champions Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the German top flight – he would look to sign for a Premier League club at the end of the season.

But the England captain said the stories were wide of the mark.

He told ESPN: “I’m not sure. I’ve said throughout my whole career, I’m not someone who likes to think too far ahead. I’m extremely happy here. I think we have a fantastic team, fantastic coaching staff and I just feel like whilst I feel like I’m in the best condition, I wanna play at the highest level possible, and this is as high as it gets.

“So I know a lot can change in football in a short space of time and things can happen, but ultimately my focus is here. I’m not thinking about any other league or any other team. And with football, I like to just go with the flow and at the moment the flow is here at Bayern Munich.”

Kane hoping to ‘stop the noise’ about a lack of trophies

Kane has been among the best number nines in world football for several years but his personal efforts have not been enough to drag Spurs, England or Bayern over the line and win a trophy.

It could be different this year with Bayern closing in on the Bundesliga title while they face Inter Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals.

He added: ”I’ve done a lot of things I’ve wanted to do in my career so far. Of course, I know the team trophy is the one that everyone will refer back to, but ultimately, you know, you have to do your best in every situation. And I feel like I’ve done that.

“From when I set out, it was always about how consistent I could be. I looked at the greats of the game and what made them great, and it wasn’t just doing it in spells, it was doing it year after year. And that was a big drive of mine to be able to consistently be one of the best players in the world. And that drive will be with me until the end of my career, whether I finish with one trophy or 20 trophies. Ultimately it won’t change my mindset and what I want to achieve and how I try and achieve it.

“We have another opportunity this year to win some trophies and, and that would be incredible, and maybe that would stop that noise around me a little bit. But, I think in football in general, you’re always gonna have people who doubt you, people who criticise you. The most important thing is that you know what you’re trying to achieve. Your teammates respect you for how you work and the club respect you and the fans respect you, and that’s ultimately who I care about.”

Kane targeting strong end to the season

Kane, 31, admits to being excited at what the next few weeks could bring.

“This is my second year in Bayern and we have the chance to reach our second semifinal in the Champions League, another title race,”he said. “So yeah, all those factors that come into it. Bayern are seen as one of the biggest clubs in the world and it’s exciting to play for them.”
