Diogo Jota’s second-half strike proved to be enough for Liverpool as Arne Slot’s side claimed victory over Everton in the Merseyside to move 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Jota scored on 57-minutes after Toffees striker Beto had seen his first-half goal ruled out for offside. and another effort hit the post.
The result extends Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to 26 games, while Everton were perhaps a little fortunate to finish the match with 11 players after James Tarkowski’s crunching tackle on Alexis Mac Allister.
For the visiting fans, David Moyes’s Anfield record made for ominous reading before kick-off. The 61-year-old had never won a game on Liverpool’s turf in 21 attempts during his managerial career.
And that winless run was not to be ended here as the Reds’ surge towards the title continues to gather speed.

How the action unfolded
In front of a typically raucous Anfield crowd, Liverpool started the brighter of the two sides. Diogo Jota saw his early shot blocked before Tarkowski was perhaps lucky not to be sent off when he caught Mac Allister high on the leg after clearing the ball.
From the resulting free-kick, Dominik Szoboszlai fizzed his effort inches wide of the post.
Then, seemingly out of nothing, Beto latched onto a hopeful Everton ball forward. The striker outmuscled Virgil van Dijk before poking home but the offside flag was raised and the goal was ruled out.
Beto was again at the centre of the action 12-minutes later when he ran through on goal, but the Guinea-Bissau international’s shot cannoned against the post.
Suddenly Everton tails were up and the Toffees ended the half looking much more threatening on the break.
But the hosts, with a lively front three of Salah, Jota and Luis Diaz, posed a constant danger.
Jota nearly got on the end of a Ryan Gravenberch cross and, moments later, the Dutch midfielder took aim himself but the strike took a kind deflection off Tarkowski and nestled into the grateful arms of Jordan Pickford.
The second half began just as the first had ended, with Gravenberch hitting from distance and Pickford palming away.
Jota then blasted into a crowd as the game started to open up.

On 57-minutes, the Portuguese international found himself in a similar position in the Everton penalty area but this time he retained his composure, jinking elegantly past two defenders before rifling home.
Anfield was fit to burst. Everton threw on Armando Broja and Iliman Ndiaye in a bid to salvage something from the tie.
But the hosts saw out the game to secure both the points and the bragging rights. Just 13 points now separate Liverpool from the Premier League title with eight games to go.
