Colleen Hoover has written a number of cinematic novels.
The romance author has published over 20 books, many of which have earned a spot on The New York Times best seller list, become “BookTok” sensations and made their way to Hollywood.
Hoover’s first book adaptation hit the small screen in 2017 when her novel Confess was turned into a seven-episode television series. Seven years later, in August 2024, Hoover’s best-seller, It Ends with Us, premiered in theaters, marking the author’s first book-to-movie adaptation.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that month, Hoover said seeing the final product of It Ends with Us was both “overwhelming” and “surreal.”
“I think it’s all of the emotions,” she said. “I’m able to separate it in the sense that I see the book and the film as two completely separate things. But at the same time, I think they did such a good job condensing this book into a film that I’m very happy with this adaptation.”
Since the movie’s release, three more of Hoover’s novels have secured adaptation deals — Verity, Regretting You and Reminders of Him — with two currently filming, and one in early production days.
So, which Colleen Hoover novels have been adapted or are in the works? Here’s everything to know about which of the author’s books are making it to the big screen.
It Ends with Us

In 2016, Hoover published It Ends with Us, which became a widely talked about best-seller and rose the author to fame. The novel follows a florist named Lily Bloom, who finds herself in an abusive relationship — much like the one she grew up watching from her parents at home. In the midst of navigating her new, tumultuous romance with Ryle, she starts thinking back to her first love, Atlas.
Years after its publication, the novel went viral as part of the “BookTok” cultural phenomenon, became the top-selling print book of 2022 and landed on The New York Times Best Seller List for over 90 weeks, per Deadline.
According to the outlet, the book was first optioned by Justin Baldoni — who directed the movie — and Wayfarer Studios in 2019.
In January 2023, Hoover announced on Instagram that Blake Lively and Baldoni had been cast as leads Lily and Ryle. Brandon Sklenar, who starred as Atlas, and Jenny Slate, who portrayed Ryle’s sister Allysa rounded out the cast, while the younger versions of Lily and Atlas were played by Isabella Ferrer and Alex Neustaedter.
“To actually finally see it happening and happening so soon and the fact that I am so genuinely excited for y’all to see it because they did the book such justice, that’s what I’m excited about,” the author said about the adaptation during a conversation moderated by Entertainment Tonight in July 2024. “‘Cause as a reader first, you know, we want those movies to reflect the books that we write.”
The movie version premiered in theaters on Aug. 9, 2024, before being released on Netflix that December.
While Hoover wrote a sequel following Atlas and Lily’s love story, titled It Starts with Us, an adaptation has not yet been announced.
It Ends with Us is available to stream on Netflix.
Verity

Hoover first self-published Verity in 2018 — and shared during an August 2024 appearance on Barely Famous that penning it was her “favorite writing experience.”
The psychological thriller follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is facing financial ruin. However, she is soon hired by Jeremy Crawford to complete the remaining books in a series written by his wife Verity, a best-selling author who has suffered a mysterious accident.
Following its publication, the book topped The New York Times best seller list for months and sold over 1 million copies in 2023.
In November 2024, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed the novel would be adapted into a movie directed by Michael Showalter, who is known for 2017’s The Big Sick and 2024’s The Idea of You, while Anne Hathaway would star as its titular character.
“@annehathaway as Verity! Michael Showalter directing! @amazonmgmstudios! Verity is coming to theaters and I am so excited for this cast and the script and the director and the whole team bringing this to life. Cannot wait,” Hoover wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post following the announcement.
It was later announced that Dakota Johnson would play Lowen, while Josh Hartnett would portray Jeremy.
In late February 2025, Hathaway and Hartnett were spotted filming in New York City. Days later, Johnson was photographed on set with fake blood splattered across her face and clothes.
As for its premiere, Verity will be released in theaters on May 15, 2026, per Variety.

In 2019, Hoover published Regretting You, a contemporary romance and young adult crossover novel about the aftermath of a tragic car accident that killed two members of main character Morgan’s family. Morgan is confronted with secrets and lies that she uncovers after the crash while attempting to continue to raise her teenage daughter, Clara.
Deadline reported in August 2024 that the novel was being adapted for the big screen, with Josh Boone, who helmed 2014’s The Fault In Our Stars, directing.
“When I read Regretting You I was captivated by the characters and knew we needed a partnership with an amazing cast to make it real,” Boone told the outlet. “Our plan is to make a classic that mothers and daughters will cherish for years to come.”
As for the cast, Allison Williams and Mckenna Grace will take on the starring roles as Morgan and Clara, respectively, and will be joined by Dave Franco, Scott Eastwood, Mason Thames and Willa Fitzgerald.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, filming began in the Atlanta metro area in March 2025.
But, it won’t be long until the movie is released! Regretting You is slated to hit theaters on Oct. 24, 2025.
Reminders of Him

Hoover published Reminders of Him in 2022. The novel tells the story of a young mother, Kenna Rowan, recently released from prison for a tragic mistake, seeking another shot at rebuilding her life and a chance to reconnect with her 4-year-old daughter.
Per Variety, the novel has sold over 6.5 million copies globally and has been translated into 45 languages.
In October 2024, Universal Pictures announced it would adapt the book based on a screenplay written by Hoover and Lauren Levine, according to Deadline.
“I am thrilled to be working with Universal to bring Kenna Rowan’s world to life,” Hoover said in a statement following the announcement. “I hear from many readers who tell me they found something of themselves in her story of living with and through tragedy and doing the often messy and imperfect work of healing and turning the page to a fresh chapter in life.”
The author added, “I am excited as Reminders of Him holds a special place in my heart too. I feel confident Universal is the right partner to do this story justice.”
Vanessa Caswill, who previously helmed 2023’s Love at First Sight, will direct the movie, and Maika Monroe will take on the starring role, per Deadline.
According to Variety, the studio is aiming to release the movie in theaters on Feb. 13, 2026.
