Magpies move fifth as doomed Foxes make it English-record eight home defeats without scoring

Newcastle moved fifth in the Premier League and condemned Leicester City to a record-breaking eighth successive home defeat without scoring courtesy of two Jacob Murphy goals and one by Harvey Barnes at the King Power Stadium.

Murphy tapped in Tino Livramento’s cross after two minutes, drawing boos from the home fans and a dismayed demeanour from Foxes manager Ruud van Nistelrooy at the start of the latest dispiriting performance in Leicester’s slide towards relegation.

Their dreadful start continued when visiting defender Fabian Schar’s shot from the halfway line smacked the crossbar, bounced down and was slotted in by Murphy, with City’s outfield players conspicuous by their absence.

Former Leicester winger Harvey Barnes added a third in the 34th minute, striking from the rebound after goalkeeper Mads Hermansen pushed Joelinton’s curling effort into his path.
